Audience: This virtual 2-hour session is appropriate for any education professional who wants to learn more about trauma, the effects of trauma, and specific ways to support students who have experienced trauma. All education professionals are welcome, although it is recommended that you attend Module 1 first (you may access the recording of Module 1 through our virtual catalog if you missed it.)  The content and strategies discussed will be appropriate for all roles including administrators, teachers, social workers, psychologists, counselors, paraprofessionals, and anyone else who in interested in this topic! 

Description: In this session, we will build upon the content in the first module by learning many specific strategies to use with students who have experienced trauma or who may be experiencing high levels of stress. In fact, we will emphasize that the strategies we will be learning are helpful for ALL students! We will discuss how we can use strategies for emotional regulation and stress management with individual students and with whole classrooms of students as well. Participants will leave with a packed toolkit of strategies to help them on their path to becoming a trauma-informed educator.

Presenters: Mahri Wrightington, Ph.D. & Amy Briesch, Ph.D. 

Dr. Mahri Wrightington is the founder and CEO of PD Monster. She earned her doctorate in school psychology at the University of Connecticut and holds current Connecticut school certifications in school psychology and school administration. Having worked as a school psychologist, school administrator, and education consultant for the past 15+ years, Dr. Wrightington has a wealth of knowledge to share with participants. Her training style is humorous, engaging, and practical. Dr. Wrightington is passionate about providing professional development that will have an immediate impact on the practices of the participants.

Dr. Amy Briesch is an Associate Professor and the Director of the School Psychology Program at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Her areas of expertise include the (1) identification and examination of feasible and psychometrically-sound measures for the formative assessment of student social behavior, (2) use of self-management as an intervention strategy for reducing problem behaviors in the classroom, and (3) role of student involvement in intervention design and implementation. She is the author of several professional articles and books in these areas.
